In order to provide a great care service you need to have great staff, it is after all our staff that represent us a company, so what better way for you to get an insight into our company than by getting to know some of our staff.

This month, in our series of ‘staff interviews’ we will be looking at our Admin Support, Samantha.

Samantha, has provided admin support to The Essex Care Group since we opened, and has previously had admin, compliance and training roles within the health and social care industry.

How did you get in to the care industry?

Most of my family have been involved in the health and social care industry in some way. My mum was a carer, my dad a mental health nurse, both grandmothers were nurses, and I also had extended family in the industry, so when I left school it seemed the obvious choice.

Initially I did day care services for adults with learning disabilities. I then moved away from the industry and worked in the retail sector in admin and compliance roles, but before long I missed the job satisfaction I got from health and social care, and decided to return to care work part time alongside my retail position.

Eventually I went on to work just in care, moving to office based roles, first in admin, and then in training and compliance.

What do you find most challenging about your job role?

The speed at which guidance and best practise information changes. The whole industry is constantly evolving, which it should, because it’s always working towards the best interests of the individuals that need care, but it can be hard keeping on top of all the changes, and making sure that you are always ahead of the game.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the fact that I get to put my skills to good use in an industry that’s important to me.

What does a typical working day consist of for you?

I have a young child at home, so I fit my work around my family commitments, I also run my own business part time. Typically my admin support work is done first thing in the morning, or in the evenings, and encompasses various computer based tasks.to edit it.
